I travel to New Zealand each year and have stayed in numerous gay B&B's (homestays) on both islands. In 2004 I spent 3 days with Steven and Stan at their "Gaystay Kerikeri" homestay. It was a fabulous experience with their beautiful home and garden, and especially their very warm hospitality. Although my stay was short, I knew that I wanted to return as time allowed. I wrote to them the following year and they had closed their B&B because they were building a new house.
For my 2009 visit, I wrote to them again and they were anxious to have me be a visitor in their new designer home. The new home is very modern with every convenience and they have once again created a beautiful garden surrounding the home. Since they are very avid gardeners, they are more than happy to show you around and describe the many plants and flowers they have incorporated in their garden. It was a wonderful week.
My room was large and included a private bath and toilet along with a comfortable bed. A television was also in the bedroom with DVD player. The house has WiFi wireless internet which was a plus for me in that it allowed me to keep in contact with my partner who was at home in California. The main part of the house includes a large flat screen television and stereo in the living area which are available to guests. And there is a nice private pool in the central court. The home can be described as very modern and one that you would expect to find in Palm Springs.
The Kerikeri area includes many points of interest to keep you as occupied as you may wish. With its proximity to the Bay of Islands and local towns, many activities on the water and shore can be enjoyable. Kerikeri is also close enough to make a nice day trip to Cape Reinga where two mighty oceans meet: The Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean.
But the thing I will remember most about my visit is the hospitality shown by the hosts Stan and Steve. They prepared wonderful meals and took me on walks in the area including a beautiful waterfall as a very short walk. I now think of Steven and Stan as close friends and I am sure you will feel the same after visiting their wonderful "GayStay Kerikeri" B&B.
I certainly look forward to my next visit and their fabulous kiwi hospitality.
